British Embassy Seoul Job Vacancy – LEII Scholarships Officer

The British Embassy in Seoul is looking to recruit a new Scholarship Officer to start work at the Embassy in July 2012.

Purpose of Job
The purpose of the job is to:
· Manage and develop the Embassy’s Chevening Scholarship Schemes in Korea;

· Develop wider and deeper UK alumni engagement;

· Work with UK alumni to support cross-cutting Embassy programmes that take forward the UK’s future prosperity agenda.


Main Responsibilities
· Manage partner arrangements for the Ministry of Science and Education (MEST) Chevening Scholarship Scheme and its expansion;

· Develop new MEST type scholarship programmes with ministry and/or commercial partners that can: expand UK/Korean education links; strengthen youth engagement; identify and promote future leadership networks;

· Work with The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) to support the overall administration of the Chevening Scholarship Scheme including handling applications, arranging interviews and ensuring robust budget management;

· Work with ACU to provide advice and support to candidates throughout the selection and university application process;

· Organise pre-departure briefing and events, drawing on pre-departure materials supplied by the ACU;

· Support cross-cutting Embassy work on alumni engagement;

· Maintain a database of UK alumni contacts.


Key Skills and attributes
Essential

· A high level of spoken English and Korean;

· Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills;

· Experience of organising and leading projects;

· Entrepreneurial flair and drive to deliver results to tight deadlines;

· A self starter who can work flexibly on his/her own initiative, or with others as part of a cross cutting Embassy team;

· The ability to lead by example and to motivate and develop others;

· Standard IT literacy.


An advantage

· Knowledge of Korean ministry, institution or company training programmes;

· Event and customer management skills.

About the Embassy

The British Embassy in Seoul represents the UK Government in the Republic of Korea. We provide practical advice, support and assistance to British nationals who travel to or live in Korea. We act as the eyes and ears of the British Government in Korea, providing information on developments in Korea. We provide information on the likely effects on the UK of decisions made in Korea, and vice versa. An important part of our work is to provide services to Koreans who are interested in the UK.
